Capella Ixtapa, respected art galleries such as GALART and Arte Nativo, and  local experts join forces to host a Festival de Arte (Art Festival) every weekend during the month of June, 2014.

During June, art and culture will be celebrated at Capella resort in Ixtapa.

Every Friday evening during June, Capella Ixtapa will host a cocktail and showing of the works of a number of renown artists. There will be painting, object art, jewelry, and a tobacco and cigar showing. The artists will be present to discuss their work.

Every Saturday, a series of classes and exhibit-lectures will be conducted by various artists and experts. Classes will cover painting, jewelry, tobacco and cigar exhibit and demonstrations, and lectures by Rodolfo Lobato, the archaeologist in charge of the Soledad de Maciel (Xihuacan) archaeological site near Ixtapa Zihuatanejo.

Capella Cocktail Nights

Program for the weekend of June 6, 7, and 8, 2014:

Friday, June 6 in the Terrace Bar from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.:

Opening cocktail with showing and sale of the works of three of Galart’s renown and exclusive artists, Lauri Copeman, Michael Hackett, and Monica Gutierrez. Cocktails (margaritas and beer) and canapes will be served. Cost: $15 USD or $200 pesos per person, including taxes and service.

Saturday, June 7 on the Capella Yoga Deck from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.:

Painting class using various painting techniques, conducted by Lauri Copeman. Cost: $15 USD or $200 pesos per person. Cost includes all materials necessary for your finished painting (please reserve at Ext. 5082)

Sunday, June 8 at the Capella reception hall and library from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.:

Art exhibit and sale of pieces (paintings, jewelry, etc.) by various Galart designers, including Lauri Copeman, Monica Gutierrez, Emilia Castillo, Ayala Bar, Manuelle Mizrahii, and D’Argenta.

Manos Por Mexico Exhibit in Mexico City

The “Manos Por Mexico” exhibit, in honor of surrealist artist and designer Pedro Friedeberg, will open at the Franz Mayer Museum in Mexico City on June 5, 2014.

Pedro Friedeberg, born in Italy and brought to Mexico as a young child, has spent much of his life in this country, making Mexico City his home. He shared ideas and experiences with Leonora Carrington, Edward James, Pita Amor, Alice Rahon, and Antonio Souza. His masterpiece and most widely recognized work is his “Hand-Chair” (Mano Silla, 1962), and this exhibit will feature reproductions done by plastic artists of that well-known piece.

The Fashion and Textile Museum of London announces the first-ever exhibition on the rebozo–the classic Mexican shawl made famous in 20th century culture by Mexican artist Frida Kahlo.

This exhibit will include a painting by Zihuatanejo artist Graciela.

The exhibit explores the key role textiles have played in promoting Mexican culture worldwide from the 17th century to the present day. Continue reading »
