Chimalma, mother of Quetzalcoatl, "The Plumed Serpent" is said to have declared his divinity prior to his birth, having conceived him upon swallowing a blue-green jadestone.

On her figure, carved down her right side, are a series of transformations through which she passes on her cosmic journey: Mother, Healer, Shaman.

Chimalma's left side is uncarved. Her smooth, long-flowing hair pours down her back toward the image of the Rain God, Tlaloc engraved on her buttocks. Tlaloc, who carries a golden serpent representative of thunder and lightning, is her final transformation
