Goddesses and Women of Mexico

Woman of the TLC

Woman of the TLC, Side View

TLC is, in Spanish, the acronym for the Tratado de Libre Comercio, or North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).

Made of plywood rather than the richly aged wood favored by the artist in his other sculptures, this woman's shiny exterior is covered with the logos of multi-national corporations and protected by 10 coats of varnish. Her features are undistinguished, vague and unpleasing to the eye.

The Woman of the TLC has forsaken her heritage, traded in her natural gracefulness for slickness and forgotten her roots.

The Woman of the TLC, in the eyes of Arq. Arturo Macias, is harsh -- she has lost her feminine softness and warmth.

March 2004: The Woman of the TLC now has her home with Susy Spitz, Beachwood Ohio
